This program trains students to competently administer medication safely in an assisted living facility. They will learn the concepts of safe medication administration, infection control, patient rights, vital signs monitoring, and basic nursing skills.
The program includes hands-on learning, laboratory, and clinical experiences to prepare the student for an entry-level job in an assisted living facility. Upon completion, graduates will receive a Medication Aide Certificate of completion, becoming eligible to sit for the Medication Aide Certification Examination to become a Certified Medication Aide. This program is approved by Virginia Board of Nursing and certified by the State Council of Higher Education (SCHEV). 5-10 students will sit in a class.

To be admitted, the student must have:

  • Classroom-based education
  • Stimulated laboratory experience
  • Clinical experience in an approved nursing facility
Other Requirements

  • CNA or PCA certificate or 40 hours of direct patient care experience
  • Valid Identification card (driver’s license, state ID, Passport)
  • Criminal Background check($50.00)
  • Valid CPR certification(Healthcare provider by American Heart Association)
  • TB Test (PPD test/Quantiferon gold test/chest X-ray)
